I love pop art and op art. And
geometrics and fun prints and eccentric what nots. The playful in art. Not sure why.
Does the child in us ever die?
"She went round and round in
the carousal and her coat was blue with big white circles"
I remember thinking these lines
about myself years ago. I was near the bottom of the steps to the Basilica
sacre-Coeur in Paris astride a horse in an old fashioned merry go round with
french songs playing in the back ground. I had no clue of the lyrics, though to
my ear,French always sounds wildly romantic from reading translated books or
watching subtittled movies :). I was not wearing a blue coat and still dont
have one.
But there it was. Some borrowed
image from childhood.
Dolls. A crousal. Some blue from
watching clouds form in the sky of our quiet neighbourhood. A lazy summer day
pouring over comics with mother humming while arranging jelly pudding in color
blocks. A peep through my brother's old fashioned keleidoscope. You rotate it
and colors and patterns break up and delight you.....
Perhaps seeing the world as a child
does...in blocks ..red and blue and yellow. In traingles and rounds &
squares. Simple.Happy.Tears that can turn into smiles very quick. And to
believe that this can be recreated at any age. And to form such stories through
our style.
That is what playful dressing does
for me. I do not need the skimpy frayed denim shorts or my six pack abs to feel
young {Whoopeeee if you have them...I dont :)}. I need a dose of that good solid
polka. Or serve me that splash of bright lipstick red....in anything. On my martini glass or my boots or even over my umbrella will do to bring that
spring back into my steps !
I can be twenty or forty or eighty and be playfully
ageless through my style! Join me in this journey!
